Hello

My name is Kenlyn. I am the owner and therapist at True Nature Therapy. These pictures of me (and my pup, Olive) have been captured throughout adventures and special moments. I hope they can help you get to know me a bit more as we hopefully start your therapeutic journey together. As you will see, I spend a lot of time outdoors and exploring the natural world. Keep reading below to get to know my therapeutic style!

About Kenlyn

I believe my purpose in this lifetime is to create space to help people heal and create the life they desire. I have a deep knowing that in order to feel we are living a meaningful life, we must look inward and take time to heal and grow. We can all live with joy, peace, connection, and fulfillment. My hope is that I can help walk alongside you as you begin to create the life you want.

I feel my role is to help you come to deeply know yourself and heal from the inside out. A strength of mine is facilitating a safe, open space to address pain, emotional distress, life difficulties, relational concerns, and any other areas we determine are important in enhancing emotional balance and well-being. My approach is collaborative and enthusiastic, and I find such meaning in helping you feel deeply known, valued, and understood.

I went to the University of Northern Iowa as an undergraduate and graduated from Western Illinois University with a Master's in Clinical Psychology and Community Mental Health. I have been a practicing therapist for 8 years. I enjoy working with a broad array of concerns including trauma recovery, anxiety disorders, depression, identity concerns, eating disorders, body image, emotional dysregulation, relational issues, self-esteem, chronic stress, and family issues. While my treatment style is flexible based on the person I am working with, the foundation of my therapeutic approach lies in Interpersonal Theory, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Shame Resilience, Acceptance and Commitment Theory (ACT), and Experiential Theory. I have training in mindfulness and meditative practices, Trauma-Informed Care, and nature-based therapeutic practices.

I love being a therapist. Yes, it is my occupation but I always tell people it aligns so authentically with who I am. I am confident my clients feel that authenticity from me in sessions. I am a naturist and outdoor lover at heart, and I spend a lot of time in the woods and exploring Iowa's beautiful state parks. Hiking, kayaking, camping, bird-watching, and adventuring are huge parts of my life. I find so much meaning, peace, and joy in being outdoors. My dog, Olive, goes on every adventure with me. I also love reading, journaling, trying new coffee shops, spending time with my loved ones, and going to concerts. I love music! I hope that helps you get to know me a bit. I look forward to talking with you about your hopes and goals for your own life and therapy journey.
